Program participants live with other students and relate with a diverse population of people in the intercultural setting. Travel and unknowns contribute to the intense and demanding nature of many days, in addition to facing new ideas and challenges.
Please rate yourself in each category, on a scale of 1-5, with "5" being extremely well developed and "1" being poorly developed.

6. Academics & Work:
Intercultural learning demands a great deal from participants, from background readings and careful listening (sometimes to non-native English speakers), to taking initiative to engage surroundings and people, as well as group life responsibilities.

10. The following questions indicate the kind of situations you will likely face during the seminar. Please evaluate your ability and commitment to participate fully under these conditions by selecting Yes or No.
-
I am able to dig deep and adapt when circumstances are less than ideal.
-
I understand the need to contain my luggage to an amount that I can personally transport. If I have a physical limitation that precludes this, I will make that known to the seminar leaders before we travel.
-
I can practice gratitude and openness to the food I am served. If I have any dietary restrictions that could potentially impact my health, I will report them to the seminar leaders before we travel.
-
I can practice flexibility and draw upon a spirit of adventure to participate in an intercultural seminar, especially in a region where there is political turmoil, which presents some uncertainties and unknowns.
-
I understand that I will have formal Arabic training but will practice this on the street. I can be vulnerable enough to do my best to engage and understand that I will do so imperfectly. I understand that these are two ways to learn the language.
-
I can practice respect with any person I meet with the understanding that cultural difference might mean I am sometimes misunderstood. If I am being harassed or otherwise harmed, I will seek the necessary support, beginning with the seminar leaders.
-
I have the openness and ability to live with a host family, understanding that this might place me reasonably outside of my comfort zone.
